Purpose
Veon Scientific Ltd is committed to running its business responsibly. We look for practical ways to reduce our environmental impact without compromising the safety, quality, robustness and performance customers expect from our products.
Our Operations
We design laboratory automation and analytical equipment, and carry out production-level assembly, integration, testing and commissioning ourselves. Specialist processes such as sheet-metal fabrication, CNC milling and turning, painting and anodising are generally carried out by specialist suppliers. We also buy proprietary components and assemblies from established manufacturers.
Our own operations do not involve heavy industrial manufacturing, routine chemical processing or hazardous discharges. Our environmental impact comes mainly from energy use, transport, purchased goods, packaging, waste and the wider supply chain, and we manage these as part of running the business.
Waste and Materials
To reduce waste and make better use of materials, we:
- Use contracted general-waste and recycling services, and separate waste where practical.
- Reuse incoming packaging where it still protects products and components properly.
- Ship products in the original manufacturer's packaging where practical and appropriate.
- Buy packaging made from recycled cardboard where it suits the application.
- Send any specialist or regulated waste through the appropriate disposal routes.
Energy and Transport
We use energy-efficient lighting, and our company vehicle fleet is currently fully electric. We look for proportionate ways to cut unnecessary energy use and travel while continuing to support customers and run the business effectively.
Product Design and Lifecycle
We design our products for purpose, robustness and quality, with an emphasis on reliable engineering, maintainability, replaceable components and continued technical support. These principles help extend the useful life of our instruments and avoid replacing complete systems unnecessarily.
Materials and Product Compliance
Where applicable, we specify and buy components, materials and post-processing that meet the relevant RoHS and REACH requirements. We use supplier declarations, technical information and other compliance evidence, where appropriate, to support product conformity.
Supply Chain
Many specialist components and technologies are not made locally, so we buy from suppliers around the world. Where a technically suitable product is available locally at a viable price, we favour local supply.
When we select and review suppliers, we consider capability, quality, reliability, compliance and commercial suitability and, where relevant, environmental and ethical performance. We prefer suppliers with accredited or otherwise established quality-management systems where appropriate. We also recognise that some capable, long-standing specialist suppliers, particularly for post-processing, operate without formal accreditation.
Electrical Equipment, WEEE and Producer Responsibility
Veon Scientific Ltd is registered in the UK as a small producer of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), as we place less than five tonnes of EEE on the UK market each calendar year.
We monitor the amount of EEE we place on the UK market and keep the records, product markings and information required by the UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations. We review our registration status and annual tonnage periodically, and whenever our product range or sales volume changes materially.
Where our equipment is supplied outside the UK through an international distributor, we require that distributor to identify and comply with the local requirements that arise from importing, distributing or selling our products in their market. These include WEEE and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations, producer or importer registration, reporting, take-back, recycling and responsible end-of-life treatment.
Where legislation places an obligation directly on Veon Scientific Ltd as the manufacturer or brand owner, and that obligation cannot lawfully be transferred to a distributor or anyone else, we will take the steps needed to meet it.
We support the responsible end-of-life treatment of our products. Where appropriate, we may help customers with product returns, component recovery, recycling or finding suitable disposal routes.
Continuous Improvement
We apply environmental management in proportion to the size and nature of our business. The Directors periodically review opportunities to reduce waste, use resources more efficiently, set clearer expectations for suppliers and improve our environmental performance.
Governance
This policy is approved by the Directors of Veon Scientific Ltd. It is reviewed at least once a year, and whenever there is a material change to the business, to applicable legislation or to significant environmental risks.
